NEW ARRIVALS

Sobell Family guitars mandolins

The Sobell Family

We are thrilled to have just received a small family of instruments from Stephan Sobell, arguably one of the best luthiers making instruments today. Hand-crafting instruments in a small village in Northern England since 1979, Sobell has been producing some of the world’s finest guitars, mandolins, mandolas, Citterns and Bouzoukis.

Played by musicians such as Martin Simpson, Darrell Scott, Mark Knopfler and Tony McManus, Sobells are known for their exquisite sound and distinctive sound holes. Sobell selects each piece of wood by hand to ensure the sounds on the low-end are deep and clear, while keeping the high-end full of life and sparkle. Depending on the instrument, Stephen Sobell will use Brazillian or Indian Rosewoods, or Malaysian Blackwoods for the back and sides of his guitars and beautiful Canadian or Birdseye Maple for the mandolin families. German Spruce is often utilized for the tops - necks are Mahogany or Wenge. You’ll find Gotoh Tuners on most of his creations.

We have received five Sobell instruments from a private collection and they may not be here long. Give us a call or come take a look.
