1992 Gibson Celebrity Chet Atkins SST
1992 Gibson Celebrity Chet Atkins SST
Made between 1991 and 1993, the Chet Atkins Celebrity SST was a steel string version of the chambered nylon string Chet was playing around that time, as he’d largely switched to nylon string guitars by that point in his life.
Only 200 were made, as they were a bit of an experiment, and they seemed to be a reasonable success, though they’re definitely of their time. The chambered mahogany body is topped with a solid spruce cap, and the mahogany neck has an ebony fretboard with fairly large Gibson jumbo frets that still have a good bit of life left.
The electronics were a fairly simple blend of wheel potentiometers for volume, treble, and bass, with an under saddle piezo running through a preamp based on an LF353 op-amp.
This particular one was built early in 1992, and is in fair condition for its age. There are one or two big marks on the top, as well as some white specs on the guitar. The neck is playable, though is the tiniest bit uneven, but still is sounding clear on each fret.
Comes with the original hard shell case.
